Panama Immigration Visas / PassportsPanama’s visa program is designed to encourage specific types of immigration and to support immigrants once they are in Panama. Panamanian visas allow immigrants to stay for extended periods of time in the country and to benefit from economic incentives not otherwise available to non-visa holders. Immigrants seeking citizenship have the option to do so, however Panamanian visas do not—in themselves—confer citizenship. Although there are many types of visas, one of the most widely sought is the Visa Pensionado (Pensioner Tourist Visa—see below).

In order to commence the process for any visa, it is necessary to hire a Panamanian attorney or law firm. The applicant and his dependents must make an initial trip to Panama, in order to effect the registration process at the immigration department. While the visa is being processed, provisional i.d.’s can be requested while the process continues. For those visas that allow exoneration for import households and cars, it is necessary to obtain the visa, prior to importing goods.
